Are you playing Russian roulette with your patients' protected health information?

I have a dental practice that had been using Yahoo mail for many years tocorrespond with patients and referring doctors. When I helped them transition to a paperless environment, they started using a new secure email service. However, last year, that old email account was hacked. Even though they had not used that email account for many years, it had a lot of content still sitting on the Yahoo server … and that content was compromised. The office consulted with their risk management company and it was decided that there was in fact a HIPAA breach and the practice had to take the appropriate actions to repair the damage.

Are you still playing Russian roulette with your patients’ protected health
information when sending email to your specialists or other individuals? With all the secure solutions available, there is no excuse not to protect your patients’ information if you are going to be sending it out on the World Wide Web. I understand you may not know where to start or which third-party company to research, so I am going to make it real easy for you. If you are using Dentrix software, I recommend using the company that is fully integrated with your software, Dentrix SecureMail. Here is why . . .

  • ·        Like I said, it is fully integrated with your Dentrix software. You know how much I love the Office Journal. Now you can record those emails directly into your Office Journal for easy access and reference. Also, you can use your Quick Letters to create custom templates. This will save you a ton of time and worry about locating correspondence.
  • ·        Do you want to send out an email announcing your open house or a new employee in your practice? Send a single email from your patient family file or send a batch email to your entire database.
  • ·        Are you having a hard time sending those CT scans out with regular email because the file is too large? No worries here, because you can send out an attachment up to 500MB in size. Wow!

Dentrix is now accepting applications for offices looking to be part of the initial offering of this amazing new product. You will be able to use the Dentrix SecureMail and be able to help the development team improve the service before it launches to the public.
